Like the idea of practising yoga in an extraordinary setting?

From thermal craters in Utah, to ancient caves in Tuscany, and an underwater restaurant in the Maldives, we sought out some of the most stunning – and unusual – places to get your 'om' on around the world.

1. Underwater yoga, Hurawalhi Island, Maldives

The 5-star Maldives resort held its first undersea yoga class at its all-glass 5.8 Undersea restaurant last year.

This year it is hosting a series of 'At One with the Ocean' retreats which involve morning yoga and meditation at the stunning location.

For more information head to the hotel's website.

Fancy trying yoga in a hot spring? Of course. Park City Yoga Adventures offers paddleboard yoga classes inside the Homestead Crater in Midway, Utah, where the 95-degree therapeutic turquoise waters make for a dreamy setting.

An hour costs from $140 per person, with a minimum of two yogis per session and maximum of 10. Book classes here.

3. Thermal yoga in an ancient cave, Tuscany

Grotta Giusti

The exclusive Tuscan hotel of Grotta Giusti boasts an underground thermal cave and hot spring lake as part of its spa. The water running through the grotto is rich in salt, sulphate, and alkaline earth and comes out of the ground at around 34°C. Its vapours generate a steam bath that's good for the respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems.

Classes can be booked individually or guests can book the hotel’s two-night thermal yoga spa package which starts from €664 (£592) per person based on double-occupancy.

4. Yoga in the Balinese jungle, Ubud, Bali

Ubud, Bali, is considered by many to be the mecca for wellness retreats, and we like the look of Radiantly Alive’s studio, which sits atop a hill overlooking lush tropical jungle. A single class costs $10.

EcoCamp, set in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, provides a surreal setting for practice as the yoga dome lights up at night. Hatha and Kundalini classes are thrown in for free to guests of its tours or guests can request to book private classes here.

9. At the top of a cliff in Ireland

Cliffs of Moher

Set in the Irish countryside against the dramatic backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, the Cliffs of Moher Retreat offers residential yoga weekends, which include food, accommodation, walks and yoga classes. Retreat packages start from €360 for a female-only quad room.

10. On a private island in Greece

Facebook/Silver Island

The Silver Island eco yoga retreat is set on a 60-acre private island in Greece. It can accommodate up to 10 guests who are welcome to wander the island's rolling hills and olive groves when they're not yoga-ing.

The isle is totally off the grid, so it's the perfect place to attempt a digital detox. A week's retreat in a shared double or twin room costs €1,300 per week per person, including full board and practice.
