From the sun setting on the rugged slot canyons of the Bryce Amphitheater to an inquisitive baby fur seal swimming in the Bering Sea, the final shortlist for the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards has been revealed.

This year's competition received more than 230,000 entries from 186 countries - with twenty-two British photographers earning a place on the illustrious shortlist.

Launched in 2008, the awards aims to recognise and reward the best contemporary photography in the world - with the contest free to enter and open to photographers of all levels.
