A five-star hotel with a team of personal butlers and a top suite costing £26,000 a night fully reopens today after one of the most lavish redecorations ever seen in London.

The doors of The Lanesborough by Hyde Park were officially opened by managing director Geoffrey Gelardi and head doorman Dominic Mullen, who had the same role when the hotel first launched in 1991.

It has been shut since December 2013 for an extravagant Regency-inspired refurbishment of all 93 guest rooms and suites as well as the public areas.

The cheapest doubles now start at £715 a night, restoring The Lanesborough’s status as one of the most expensive hotels in London.

The biggest suite, the Royal, has seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two living rooms and a dining room, and at 4,800 sq ft is around three times the size of a typical London family house.

The restaurant, called Céleste, has a tasting menu costing £130 with wine for five courses or £170 for seven courses.

The Lanesborough has 300 staff, including a team of 23 butlers — around one for every four rooms — who are available around the clock for duties such as pressing clothes.
