Live the green dream: Lanzarote

Jo Fernndez8 July 2013

Lanzarote Retreats are a group of eco destinations ranging from luxury villas to silk-lined Mongolian Yurts on the northern end of the island in the pretty village of Arrieta. New to the collection this summer is Tiagua 81, a 200-year-old whitewashed house and wine bodega in the traditional farming village of Tiagua (hence the name), 25 minutes from Arrieta.

Six years of renovations have converted it into four studio apartments in the main building and a separate two-bedroom cottage in the grounds, with a solar-heated outdoor swimming pool.

True to the British owner’s eco spirit, the original wine press has been preserved in the garden and the original wooden doors and shutters have been turned into coffee tables. Even the aljibe, or underground water tank, has been converted into a reading room complete with the original stone arches.

Seven nights in an apartment from 665; cottage from 910. For more details, visit Lanzaroteretreats.com
