Buzzing restaurants, slick new hotels and a craft beer scene are all good reasons to visit Chicago – and now there is one more: Norwegian Air has announced a new flight route to the ‘Windy City’ from the UK.

The low-cost airline will begin operating from London Gatwick to Chicago O’Hare International airport as of March 2018, with four flights per week. Fares will start at £179 one way.

The news consolidates Norwegian’s position as one of the fastest-growing long-haul operators in the world.

But it’s not just Chicago that will become more accessible for thousands of travellers – a new route to Austin, Texas has also been announced.

The live music capital of the world - and its fantastic BBQ food - will be much easier to reach from March 2018, with ticket prices starting at £239 one way. The new service will run three times a week from London Gatwick.

Norwegian CEO Bjorn Kjos said: “Once again we have put the UK at the heart of our ambitious expansion plans, with affordable fares to another two exciting US destinations. As America’s third biggest city, Chicago is perfect addition to our growing networks while Austin has also become a major hub for leisure and business travel so we are delighted to offer passengers more choice and lower fares to these vibrant cities.”
