Dubai used to the place of superlatives, with the world’s tallest building, the world’s largest shopping mall and so on, but neighbouring Abu Dhabi is catching up.
The emirate can now boast the opening this month of its largest hotel suite, with possibly the longest name, the Royal Mangroves Residence at Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara.
The 2,455 square-metre palatial suite is decked out with mosaic, timber and trellis, and the odd touch of 18-carat gold. The sleek duplex living space, with up to 10 king-sized en-suite bedrooms, has its own private entrance and dedicated lift. There’s a study, kitchenette, rain showers and oversized freestanding terrazzo bathtubs with panoramic views of the mangroves and an entertainment system spanning both floors. Outside there’s a private infinity pool in the rooftop garden.
Guests also have access to the executive lounge, Kasara, with free drinks (5.30pm to 8.30pm), afternoon tea, the workout room (aka a gym), free wi-fi and a butler.
