You can now stay on the Blue Planet II submarine

Fancy yourself as an ocean explorer? Your dream could become a reality.

Airbnb have launched a competition which will give three winners the chance to spend two nights and three days aboard the exploration vessel featured in Blue Planet II, OceanX’s Alucia.

The location of the trip will be the Bahamas, where you’ll be able to access the ocean up to 1000 meters under the sea. Your guide will be the show’s producer, Orla Doherty who will take you through the waters and reveal facts about the ocean and its marine life.

“Having spent 500 hours in the submarine and countless weeks at sea filming the deep sea for Blue Planet II, the Alucia almost feels like my second home," says Doherty. "I now feel privileged to be able to share this once in a lifetime experience with promising ocean heroes and show them the wonders of life in the ocean.”

Airbnb decided to offer this trip after researching what Britons' relationship with the ocean is like.

Interestingly, 85 per cent of people stated that they are seriously concerned about the ocean’s future and over a third (35 per cent) want to learn more about how to protect it, although actual knowledge of the sea wasn’t as strong.

Only 20 per cent of those surveyed were able to correctly identify the largest fish and only 14 per cent knew the percentage of oceans that have already been explored. Similarly only two fifths of the population (41 per cent) knew how many oceans there are on Earth.

Each winner will be able to take a partner on board with them and all flights, accommodation and expenses will be covered. All you have to do to enter is answer the following question in 50 to 500 characters on the Airbnb website.

"You don’t need to be an astronaut to discover a new world. Our oceans are teeming with bizarre species and dramatic, alien-like landscapes. Tell us about your ideal deep sea adventure - what do you dream of exploring beneath the waves?"
