The Indian summer: How to make the most of the warm weather

22 February 2013

We thought it would never arrive but, after the wettest June on record, summer is finally here. Allianz Your Cover provides you with a rundown of the best ways to make the most of this unexpected burst of warm weather. But act fast, because we can’t guarantee it will last for all that long…

Make the most of your garden

With warm days and light nights, there has never been a better time to fire up the barbecue and have your friends and family over for a get together. The garden is the ideal setting for this type of occasion, whether it is adults only or with children. Just check your home insurance policy is up to date before you let the kids – or the adults – loose with the football.

Visit Britain’s Beaches

The UK’s coastline is often overlooked in favour of the beaches of Spain and Greece. However, a trip to Lulworth Cove in Dorset or Porthcurno in South Cornwall will change your mind about British beaches.

These are two of many British beaches that showcase the natural beauty you can find on your doorstep and both are great destinations for families and groups looking for a weekend away in the sun. Just don’t forget to pack your swim wear!

Take the ride of your life

The UK has some of the best theme parks in Europe. Whether you’re looking for family fun or an adventurous thrill, there is a park for you. Legoland in Windsor is a great day out for younger children (and big kids), whilst Alton Towers and Thorpe Park have some of the newest and best rollercoaster’s in the country.

Camp it up

Camping is a great – and cheaper – alternative to foreign holidays and the UK has no shortage of excellent spots for you to pitch up your tent. A great example is Burnbake in Corfe Castle, Dorset.

Set in woodlands with a stream running through it, Burnbake is the perfect place to get back to nature in unspoilt surroundings. Plus, for the children, its rope swings and woodland play areas make a great antidote to X-boxes and PlayStation’s. Just a few miles down the road is a beautiful stretch of coastline and nearby is the charming Monkey World, which is home to hundreds of rescued monkeys. Both promise great days out.

Mess about on the river

Whether it’s a cruise down the Thames, a punt up the Cam or navigating a narrow boat around the Norfolk Broads, Britain has a whole host of options available to those taking to the water this summer. Going by boat is one of most relaxing ways to soak up the sun and see Britain this summer. So get outside while the sun is still shining!
