Fans of Back to the Future II will be pleased to hear Nike’s famous high-top trainers, worn by Michael J Fox in the 1989 sci-fi film, may go on sale by the end of the year.

The leading sports label’s MAG shoes are designed with lights and a self-tying mechanism.

Tinker Hatfield, a designer from Nike, has confirmed that the company are aiming to have the shoes ready for release sometime this year.

Speaking at a press conference in New Orleans, Hatfield announced the 2015 release of the new MAGs early last year – but no exact date was mentioned.

Nike filed for a patent on the shoes last year in July, which displays a side button to activate the Power Laces.

The brand previously released a version of the high-tops without the self-lacing technology in 2011, which were sold on eBay to raise funds for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

As the first replica raised a whopping £3.1 million for the charity, the updated trainers will no doubt sell out fast once released.
