Rixo is the brand that has been on everyone’s mind this year — partly because you can’t avoid it. From the sold out Cheryl dress demanding headlines when it comes back in stock to the plethora of gingham PJs dominating our Instagram feeds, the London-based brand is everywhere.

Now, the famously summery outfitter is dipping its toe in a more wintery landscape, just in time for party season.

Rixo has just released its newest collection, centred around red carpet attire and featuring ten statement gowns. For this collection, less is most certainly not more, that is to say: it’s extra.

Gowns are adorned with responsibly sourced ostrich feather trims, diamante straps, ruffled hems, and intricate beading. In keeping with Rixo’s signature vibe, there are still some handpainted florals, but these are just as bold as the bewelled looks in the collection.

The assortment of gowns are 1930s-inspired and Old Hollywood-esque, a first for Rixo, which is a brand relatively new to formalwear.

“Gowns are such an exciting category for us to be moving into,” says a statement from Rixo co-founders, best friends Henrietta Rix & Orlagh McCloskey, “and this first collection is just the beginning for RIXO eveningwear.

“Developing our shapes and styles into more elevated pieces has been a really interesting journey for us, and there’s so much more to come with what we’re hoping to offer customers in the next few years.”

Because of the “elevated” status of the Rixo eveningwear, it is set at a higher pricepoint than their ready to wear collections (all gowns are between £475 and £675), and they’re few in number: around 15-20 have been produced for each style.

Rixo is a favourite of It girls everywhere, with Pixie Geldof, Millie Mackintosh, Harling Ross Anton, Patricia Sañes, Mafalda Patrício and more all spotted sporting the brand.

Other than providing some of the chicest outfits for this summer’s wedding guests, Rixo is also known for its more unofficial eveningwear: its nightdresses and loungewear are more fit for parties than PJs. You’ll likely have seen its navy polka dot lacce-trimmed Clarice nightdress before, but probably paired with kitten heels instead of slippers.

With its first foray into formalwear, Rixo delivers a range of gorgeous gowns that are most certainly not made for sleeping.
