Nick Candy's My London

Hannah Nathanson10 April 2012

The workaholic likes a good massage and burgers from Bar Boulud

Home is
On a plane most of the time, but apart from that home is now in Belgravia after living in Monaco for over five years.

What's the first thing you do when you arrive back in London?
Go to the office. Work never stops for me.

Which London shops do you rely on?
Harrods for all the exclusive brands under one roof. Fortnum & Mason for the incredible food and wonderfully rich gifts, and Harvey Nichols for edgier, younger designers. I get my design inspiration from Christian Dior and Chanel.

What was the last play you saw?
The Tempest at The Old Vic.

What's the best meal you've had in London?
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has been named best new restaurant in the world for a reason. Try the 72-hour slow-cooked beef royal and the brown bread ice cream. I also love Zuma and Nobu for Japanese.

What would you do as Mayor for a day?
As vice president of the Safer London Foundation, I would try to make London a safer place. There is too much crime.

What would you save from a fire?
Possessions are always secondary, loved ones are all that matters.

What's your earliest London memory?
Being dragged round Harrods by my mother Patricia; it's where my appreciation for quality began.

What's your life philosophy?
Fearless minds climb soonest unto crowns.

What are you most afraid of?
Not much; business will always ebb and flow. As long as my family and friends are safe and healthy I can remedy most things with hard work and perseverance.

Do you have a recurring dream?
I tend to dream about things that are about to happen, like an important deal I'm about to make.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Fine wine, good Italian pasta and massages. And I love Starbucks coffee.

What makes you laugh?
Watching my girlfriend [actress Holly Valance] learn to ski.

What makes you cry?
I'm embarrassed to say a good chick flick - I'm an old romantic.

Which is your favourite street for shopping?
Sloane Street.

What are your favourite London discoveries?
I have found the perfect comfort food in the form of the Yankee burger at Bar Boulud in Knightsbridge.

What was the last album you downloaded?
Elton John and Leon Russell's The Union.

What are you up to?
We have just started another company called Omni Capital, and I have just completed the One Hyde Park movie.

Which is your favourite club?
George in Mayfair is where I catch up with friends; it feels like home.

Where's London's most romantic spot?
Hyde Park. You forget you're in one of the busiest cities in the world.

What do you most like wearing?
I live in suits and enjoy the formality of a beautifully tailored suit. I'm more experimental at weekends.

Where did you last go on holiday?
We spent New Year in Barbados at the Sandy Lane hotel and dined on Philip Green and Simon Cowell's table on New Year's Eve. I recently stayed at the Taj in Mumbai. It's amazing how quickly they rebuilt it after the terrorist attacks. My girlfriend took me to Lake Como for our one-year anniversary, it was very romantic.

What's the most embarrassing thing that's happened to you?
I get famous people and sayings confused. I thought it was Jake Guggenheim instead of Gyllenhaal.

Have you ever stolen anything?
No. I'd rather work hard and earn everything I have.
