The heatwave may be stretching out until October but it's not long until the summer holidays come to a close.

For the month ahead, the UK's school kids will be looking forward to spending time with family and friends and basking in the heat until the early hours of the evening.

But before all the back-to-school jitters kick in, here's everything you need to know about when the school holidays end and whether you still have time to book that last-minute family holiday:

When do the official summer holidays end?

The summer holidays this year began on Monday July 9 and kids start back at school on Wednesday September 4.
