It may look like a bucolic idyll but these images are of Hampstead Heath.

Photographer Matthew Maran has taken 150 pictures of the park from the view over London to joggers, pond swimmers and the more rural.

The nature photographer has shot some of the most beautiful national parks and wilderness areas in the world - from the great migration in east Africa and humpback whales breaching in the Pacific Ocean to primates at close quarters in the rainforests of South America.

However, Mr. Maran says that his his latest series on Hampstead Heath has been “equally exhilarating”.

He says: “Over the last four years it has been my mission to capture the beauty and diversity of this special green space and through a beautiful collection of images I have achieved this.”

The 800 acre park boasts an incredible variety of plants and animals, many of which are the subject of this new collection of photographs

The images are published in the book Hampstead Heath, London’s Countryside.
