A shy tomcat that hid away whenever potential adopters came to view him has scored a forever home after finding new confidence as a receptionist.

Champas, a white moggy with distinctive green eyes, had spent 400 days at the Animal Welfare League in NSW Australia when the staff decided to take action.

The shelter for abandoned and neglected dogs and cats appointed Champas as their very first reception cat, as part of a bid to show off his good nature and lovable qualities.

Taking to Facebook, the team posted photos of their new four-legged staff member on duty, with cardboard signs that read: “I’m a single, white male looking for love” and “I like romantic naps on your paperwork, long sniffs of your petty cash and curling up on your stuff.”

Soon, Champas was an integral part of the front desk, meeting and greeting clients who loved to give him a scratch behind the ear as he purred for attention.

According to the shelter, the new role really helped charming Champas to come out of his shell - he even displaying the annoyingly adorable feline habit of sitting on his colleague’s keyboards and refusing to budge.

Rather amazingly, the Facebook adoption strategy worked.

Nathan, a cat lover living in the area, saw the pictures of Champas online and fell in love immediately - rushing to the shelter to adopt the socially awkward kitty.

Champas has since found a forever home with his lucky new owner.

Posting on Facebook, Nathan said: “‘To everyone who is wondering what happened to Champas the long term resident of Kemps Creek – he came home with me today, and after biting my hand, went straight to sleep."
