Love Stories: meet Nik Naidoo and Izy George

'We only argue about what to order from Deliveroo'
Nik Naidoo and Izy George

Jobs: Trainers at Barry’s Bootcamp.

Ages: Nik is 29, Izy is 27.

Live: Clapham.

Length of time together: Three years.

Status: Official.

The meet-cute

Nik: We met working at Barry’s. I was a client at the time and Izy was working behind the desk. She made me a shake and we got chatting. I made the first move over Facebook by sliding into her DMs. She went home for Christmas and I wasn’t going to see her for a few weeks — I really wanted her number.

The dating game

Izy: I didn’t respond for a while. I’d recently been on a nightmare date and couldn’t be arsed with the dating scene. I did think about him over Christmas, though, and knew if I didn’t get back to him I’d kick myself.

The first date

Nik: After being pied for about a month I think we salvaged it pretty well. Our first date was at Homeslice with zero booze: we talked, ate, got ice cream afterwards and went our separate ways. I was already thinking about date number two while on the first date. I definitely thought I was punching.

First impressions

Izy: I think Nik expected me to ask to go somewhere fancy, so he was thrilled when I said I wanted “cheat meal” food. I wanted no frills — you don’t need a load of drink and fine dining to know if you get someone. On the date I was suspicious. Why was he so nice?

Meeting the parents

Nik: Mum fell in love with Izy instantly. My dad still calls her Lizzy.

Nik says: "We work together, train together, live together, and it works for us."

Meeting the friends

Izy: My friends knew I liked him, which spoke volumes as I was not liking anyone that much at the time. I was letting my guard down big time, which was different, and they could see that.

Moving in

Nik: We moved into our first flat early last year and it was great. We’d been waiting for previous tenancies to end and couldn’t wait to relax in our own space. Now it’s more a case of when we don’t see each other: we work together, train together, live together, and it works for us.

Food for thought

Izy: I don’t think we’ve ever had a serious argument — the worst it gets is when we can’t decide on our Deliveroo. Food choice turns into a scene from The Notebook: “What do you want?” ... “It’s not that simple!” We love the restaurant chain Maroush — you can’t beat Lebanese.

Pet names

Izy: Nik calls me “sloth” because I can go from running around at Barry’s to level-100 chill at home. Sometimes I barely move but he can’t sit still for very long.

Pet hates

Nik: I love Izy’s loyalty and affection. She’s my rock. Her most annoying habit is that she’s always late.

Couples who sweat together

Izy: We work out together all the time and often jump into each other’s classes. I love training with Nik and being coached by him — I think it’s a trust thing. Nik is very open and honest — he’s taught me a lot.
