Despite Apple recently rolling out several gender and race-inclusive updates to the emoji family, one important group of people is still missing from the mix.

Ginger-haired smartphone users have long been petitioning for an icon that better represents their auburn locks, and the tech giant has finally decided to put the issue on their agenda.

According to Emojipedia, The Unicode Technical Committee meeting, which is hosted by Apple, will see the Emoji Subcommittee determine an approach to implement a redhead emoji in future IOS updates.

This could range from simply creating a new “person with red hair” emoji, or going as far as creating a custom hair tag that could be applied to several existing emojis.

This means the sassy dancing lady, facepalming man and blushing bride could all soon have ginger-friendly options.

Just 1-2 per cent of the population is born with red hair, but that means as many as 138,000,000 iPhones are crying out for a ginger-inclusive update. That’s also, not to mention, the people who choose to dye their hair gloriously copper-coloured.

In short, where are our ginger emojis, Apple? These days, emojis are the only way to describe your feelings, and a whole demographic of people are missing out.

Let’s hope for the sake of ginger-haired people everywhere that an update isn’t too far away.
