These are the best pictures of London as chosen by a photography website’s computer algorithm.

The images have been selected out of millions uploaded to the website Picfair, a start-up company that lets anyone sell their photographs to anyone else.

Founded by journalist and developer Benji Lanyado, 29, the site hosts images from thousands of award-winning professionals to amateur photographers, with the algorithm doing the “quality curation”.

Mr Lanyado said: “The biggest challenge with an open-to-all stock library is quality control — how do you make sure the good stuff rises to the top? We’ve done this by continually developing our ‘Picked’ algorithm, which is, essentially, a digitised version of our taste. It helps us, and buyers, pick the best images from the millions of pics we get uploaded.”

He added: “While we were building it, we continuously used a search for ‘London’ as our test data set. This has helped us create a set of images of London, uploaded by Londoners, and curated by the algorithm.”
