Starry things to do in Beverly Hills

Where to stay, dine and celebrity spot in Los Angeles’ most glitzy neighbourhood…
Amira Hashish26 November 2019

From dinner in the Pink Palace to a very A-List walk, these are some fun ways to make yourself at home in the red carpet cocoon of 90210.

Stay at Viceroy L’Ermitage

This discreet but highly glamorous hotel offers a chic take on the Hollywood life. Less than a mile from Rodeo Drive, with a house car that will take you there, the property prides itself on privacy.

The interiors are elegant and contemporary with rich fabrics, silver and gold hues and French door balconies.

So many stars have stayed here from Liz Taylor and Richard Burton to Jessica Chastain and Eva Longoria. In fact, the suites come with generously sized dressing rooms and big bathrooms so that they are equipped for those red carpet makeovers.

The rooftop pool has breathtaking views across Los Angeles and is just the spot to enjoy a glass of something sparkling when watching the sunset.

The team provide a very warm welcome, balancing finesse with personality. A true gem, viceroyhotelsandresorts.com.

Do dinner at the Polo Lounge

No trip is complete without paying a visit to this icon. In the heart of the Beverly Hills Hotel, known as the Pink Palace, this is the epicentre of power dining in Los Angeles. Rumour has it that the Rat Pack would discuss their biggest deals here. The likes of Bradley Cooper, Leonardo Dicaprio, Reese Witherspoon and Taylor Swift have all been spotted spending time in the patio.

The decor is suitably bold. Look up at the candy-striped ceiling and keep an eye out for the signature banana leaf print. The menu, full of American fare, includes favourites such as the Polo Crab Cake and Maine Lobster Risotto. Leave space for the signature chocolate souffle, dorchestercollection.com.

Indulge in a night out at Crustacean

This is where Kim and Kanye are caught smooching on date nights, Gaga goes when she wants to be glam or Margot Robbie likes to party.

Run by dining dynasty the An Family, its doyenne is chef Helene An whose Vietnamese cuisine has an A-List following. Dishes are inventive and elaborate. The caviar-topped tuna egg rolls are presented in smoking cigar boxes whilst An's famous garlic roasted dungeness crab is devilishly moreish. Little wonder this is the restaurant of choice for Oscars after parties.

Floating walls can shift to accommodate private spaces, the main dining area is kitted out with a grey and pink scheme and fishes float through the underfloor water feature. The service is impeccable and a night here is a night out, crustaceanbh.com.

Walk with the stars

If it is your first time in Tinseltown tap up Another Side of Los Angeles. They will sort you out with a tour guide who can show you the sights including Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Blvd, the historic end of Route 66 as well as a handful of celebrity homes and extravagant hotels. Did someone say Pretty Woman? A mini photo shoot outside the Beverly Hills sign is a fun way to end a whirlwind 90 minutes, anothersideoflosangelestours.com.

Be grateful for Gratitude

This plant based cafe is a Los Angeles staple and the sister restaurant of West Hollywood’s excellent Gracias Madre. Food is sourced from local farmers and there is a big commitment to using artisan producers. Dishes are colourful, beautifully presented and delicious.

The Mediterranean mezze plate or Indian curry bowl are solid choices. The likes of Rumer Willis and Emily Blunt are fans and the covered terrace is a great spot for people watching. You will leave feeling nourished and refreshed, gratitudekitchenandbar.com.
