A closer look at Kim Kardashian’s dramatic Dolce & Gabbana looks

She is well versed in letting her clothes do all the talking, so it was no surprise that Kim Kardashian wore not one, but two, statement outfits to Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda show and afterparty in Puglia this week. The event was staged in Alberobello, a small village and Unesco World Heritage Site with an abundance of trulli - the region’s famous cone-roofed stone buildings - and featuring local craftspeople hand-making food, toys and ornaments alongside the high fashion showcase.

The reality star and SKIMS founder arrived in fabulously OTT purple, off-the-shoulder gown with a full, heavy train, accessorised with bold diamond jewellery and transparent high heels, posing for the camera against a backdrop of olive trees in Puglian streets.

Kardashian, who was accompanied by her mother Kris Jenner, sat front row alongside singer Anitta, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and actress Kerry Washington. She posted a series of images to Instagram which gushed over the event - with guests including Venus Williams and Christian Bale also in attendence - from the local food to the music. As well as a selfie with actress Fran Drescher who she described as, “My fashion icon!”

Then, for yet another dramatic outfit. An equally standout look, later that evening. For the show’s after party, Kardashian wore a floor-length black dress, a huge sunburst sacred heart pendant and a long face veil. Her look was also undeniably bridal - and perhaps likely to work the nerve of her older sister, Kourtney, who wore a similar outfit to her 2022 wedding.

ICYMI: the pair, are said to be in the middle of a feud, which has Dolce & Gabbana at its heart and is a central storyline to the current series of Hulu’s The Kardashians. Kourtney’s wedding to Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker in Portofino, Italy, was designed by the Italian fashion house but mere months later it was Kim who curated the entire Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2023 collection, selecting archival items from 1987 to 2007 for the designers to update.

“Everything started at the wedding in Portofino last May when Kim and all the family started asking about the collections from the 1990s,” said Gabbana at a press conference in the spring. “We were surprised.”

It seems that Kourtney was too. The eldest Kardashian sister and founder of lifestyle business Poosh confided to younger sister Kendall Jenner that she felt hurt Kim never asked her permission instead just telling her it was happening. The crux of the issue is - according to Kourtney - that her big day which was so “personal” to her has been copied by Kim for a business deal.

“It’s legit copying my wedding,” she said.

Kourtney revealed that the pair have always been competitive and she has always sought to have “my own thing”. She also stated that Kim has “no sense of loyalty. It is almost like a greediness... I just thought, ‘What else could you take from me? Could I have anything?”

For her part, Kim has claimed she was respectful of Kourtney’s position. “I couldn’t have been more mindful,” she said in an episode of The Kardashians. “I said don’t do the Madonna collection, don’t do the lace collection, don’t do anything Kourtney wore to her wedding out of respect for Kourtney.”

However, Kim also stated that she doesn’t need “permission” from Kourtney and called her older sister a “hater” and “the diva of all divas”, even suggesting that if anyone was the copycat it was Kourtney because Kim got married in Italy first.

In an unexpected cameo, she involved singer Andrea Bocelli. “Who performed at my wedding? Andrea Bocceli. Who performed at Kourtney’s wedding? Andrea Bocceli. You stole my f**king wedding country and my wedding performer.”

Bocelli responded on Twitter: “Dear @kimkardashian and @kourtneykardash,” Bocelli wrote. “I’m so flattered that you both love my voice and I’ll always be happy to sing for you.” Sweet and diplomatic, yes, but somehow we think it will take more than even Bocelli’s angelic voice to diffuse this drama...
