Tried and Tested: Organic Pharmacy detoxifying seaweed and eucalyptus body treatment

22 May 2012

The Organic Pharmacy detoxifying seaweed and eucalyptus body treatment, available now (£160 for 1 hour 20 mins, at the Four Seasons Hotel, fourseasons.com)

What it promises: To get rid of toxins, to soften the skin, to re-energize the body and help clear your mind.

What it actually does: Don't come expecting a full body massage, this is a detox not a relaxation session. That said, having arrived stressed and tired, I left with a clear head and feeling lighter and merrier. My therapist Lucia starts by asking me to inhale a lavender infusion from a steaming bowl before covering me in a seaweed, eucalyptus and lemon exfoliating scrub. After showering, I am slathered in soft green mud made from another mixture made up partly of sage and rose hip, then cocooned inside cellophane for 15 minutes and given a gentle head massage. When I'm at boiling point - it heats up and feels like a rather luxury version of Deep Heat - I shower again then lie down for a final slathering of body oil. I am left to rest reading magazines and drinking Jasmine tea in a private booth. This spa feels like a haven in a busy city and must have one of the best views of London from a bed.
