Why you'll be wearing two of the same jumper this winter

Two jumpers are better than one

The temperature has plummeted, making us want to throw on every chunky knit we own as soon as we roll out of bed.

In previous years bulky layering hasn't been considered sartorially savvy, but that's all about to change. For autumn/winter 2018 the layer-upon-layer look has taken an unexpectedly trendy turn.

Influencers on the Instagram have been doubling up on knitwear, but we're not talking about a jumper and a chunky cardigan or scarf.

The fashion set is now wrapping a second jumper around their necks for added warmth and style credentials. A second, yet identical jumper, might we add.

Over the past few months we've regularly seen jumpers tied around shoulders or diagonally across the chest on the streetwear scene. Everyone from Bella Hadid to Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo have been in on the styling trick. But, the latest look, which calls for two jumpers to be stitched together, definitely takes things up a notch.

The new jumper trend hasn't been catwalk-approved, but it did make an appearance in Phoebe Philo's Celine pre-fall 2018 collection.

The oatmeal double knit made numerous appearances on the streets of London and Paris during the most recent spring/summer 2019 season back in September.

Many disregarded it as just another quirky passing fashion week fad. That was, until, the two-in-one sweater style got Instagram's seal of approval.

In recent weeks several independent designers on Instagram have created their own version of the trend - and it's quickly pulling in the likes.

Influencer Tiffany Hsu recently posted a snap of herself in a two-in-one lavender number by Frankie Girl. A New York-based brand which has created several double sweater styles, which retail between $165 and $199.

LE: APT is another brand making waves with the kooky knitwear. The Parisian label's double knits are already proving to be a hit on the streets of Paris with French girls giving us a multitude of inspiration on how to work the unusual item.

"Do casual dressing the modern, minimal way with our attached double v-neck jumper," it states on its website.

The hybrid item is definitely a shake up from the usual knit styles. And, whether you invest in a pre-attached double jumper, or simply buy two jumpers to create your own, at least you'll stay warm this season.
