Samantha Cameron’s school for sandals

Samantha Cameron has certainly proven her fashion credentials. Over the past year, the British Fashion Council ambassador has taken to routinely frocking up in the likes of London Fashion Week favourites Roksanda Ilincic and Jonathan Saunders, and this month, she even appears in the pages of Vogue to discuss her role as Smythson’s creative consultant. It comes as no surprise, then, that the first lady knows how to nail holiday attire.

Sitting down to an espresso in Majorca, Sam Cam looks effortless in a chambray shift dress with a pair of simple white Birkenstocks. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for her husband. The Prime Minister looks determinedly office-appropriate in a long-sleeved blue shirt, dark jeans and smart black shoes. Does the man really not own a deck shoe or espadrille, one has to wonder?

A similar story played out to the Spainish mainland, as the Deputy Prime Minister and his wife enjoyed a leisurely stroll during the start of their summer break. Although Nick Clegg looks marginally cooler than Mr Cameron (literally, not metaphorically), by rolling up the cuffs of his sleeves and trousers, those bad Dad-sandals can’t be excused. His wife Miriam, however, looks elegantly summery in a halterneck geometric-print dress and turquoise sandals.

Ladies, take control of their packing, please!
