White for all occasions was the suggestion at New York Fashion Week today as Michael Kors unveiled a spring/summer showcase through which he declared ivory and vanilla to be the new black.

Elegant peasant gowns crafted from fine lace and oversized silk blouses, worn unbuttoned to the naval, served as punctuation in a collection through which Kors provided a host of dynamic wardrobe options.

A stark white cotton shirt cut with wide bell-sleeves, and teamed with a beautiful knee-length suede skirt, was among the most quietly understated but also most surprising additions to the show.

Clearly keen to remind his customers that his was a brand that could take them from day to evening and beyond, Kors fused tailoring with delicate lace skirts. Trench coats, perfect for rainy spring days, also featured.

This was an effortless, elegant offering which fused dreamy romanticism with clean lines and sharp cuts. It also made crystal clear business sense.

The label, recently renamed Michael Kors Collection in order to differentiate from phenomenally successful off shoot MICHAEL Michael Kors, sought to showcase its positioning as luxury player with butter soft suede and painstakingly embroidered organza dresses.

In contrasting shades of peacock blue and sunset red, digital floral prints featured on a-line skirts and blouses and were worn alongside one another to provide a fitting alternative to an evening dress.

Riding high on its phenomenal accessory sales - the brand's famous MICHAEL Michael Kors Selma bag is among the most ubiquitous in London right now - the Kors brand has its sights set further domination.

Next season, the designer - who launched the label in 1981 - introduces a series of commercially savvy, low key wardrobe staples as a means to ensure that the women buying his handbags might consider the purchase of a slouchy everyday blazer to wear alongside.

Kors has currency among New York's society crowd and was joined backstage this morning by actress Naomi Watts - along time fan of the brand - while Kendall Jenner was among the roster of models to walk in the show.
