Michelle Obama more than proved her sartorial prowess during her time in the White House, but the former FLOTUS has entered a new league over the past few months.

Since the launch of her bestselling memoir Becoming in 2018, Obama has embarked on a worldwide book tour and, with the help of her faithful stylist, Meredith Koop, has used the global stage to show off a wealth of clever looks.

From thigh-high glittering Balenciaga boots to statement power suits, Obama has been experimenting with a new, more playful style.

On her most recent visit to Scandinavia, the former First Lady paid homage to the region by exclusively wearing Scandi designers for appearances in Copenhagen and Stockholm. An easy task, considering the Scandi fashion scene has gained much attention in recent years, thanks to the creation of cult brands such as Ganni, Gestuz, Baum und Pfergarden and Saks Potts.

For her first night at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Obama wore arguably her most dazzling suit to date. A custom-made millennial pink creation covered in crystal embellishment by Stine Goya.

The eponymous upcoming brand, created in 2006, has become a favourite with the fashion set and is definitely on the up in 2019. The label recently brought its colourful aesthetic to London, with a six-week long pop up in Selfridges which opened on March 18.

The Scandi showcase continued in Stockholm when Obama walked on stage in yet another a custom-made suit, this time by veteran luxury Swedish brand Acne Studios.

The label, which was started in 1996, created a mint green suit for Obama featuring a cropped jacket with embroidered detail by the lapels.

Here are three more Scandi brands to look out for in 2019:

1. Cecilie Bahnsen

Cecile Bahnsen
Josefine Seifer
