As we prepare to wave an emotional goodbye to the Obamas on their departure from the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama has been revealed as the cover star of Vogue's December issue.

One of the world's most inspiring figures at present, Michelle is captured by American portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz wearing a stunning white Carolina Herrera dress with Monique Péan earrings for the magazine's cover before posing in a navy blue Atelier Versace dress for an image accompanying the interview.

Known for her faultlessly chic and effortless aesthetic, the First Lady revealed to Vogue's Jonathan Van Meter that her sartorial decisions aren't always as effortless as they seem.

In fact, Michelle Obama takes a number of factors into consideration before committing to a final look.

"It all boils down to comfort level: If I’m going to make you comfortable, than I have to be comfortable first."

Taking us through her complex thought process, she explains that while comfort and overall look are important, there are a number of other factors at play.

"So my first reaction isn’t ‘Who made this?’ But ‘Let’s try it on. What does it look like? Oooh, that’s cute. Oh, wow. I never thought of wearing something like this. let’s put a belt on it. I feel gooood in this.’"

"There are definitely designers that I love, people I love to work with. And who they are as people matters. Are they good people? Do they treat their staff well? Do they treat my staff well? Are they young? Can I give them a boost? But! When all of that is equal... is it cute?!"
