Meghan Markle proved what a class act she is by wearing an Emilia Wickstead dress for her appearance at a summer garden party at the British Ambassador's residence in Ireland.

A surprise decision given that the designer made headlines for criticising Meghan's wedding dress earlier this year. Wickstead was reported as saying that the Givenchy gown, designed by Claire Waight Keller, was identical to one of her own designs.

Though she later released a statement saying she was 'extremely saddened,' by the news stories, adding that: "the Duchess of Sussex looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day and I have the utmost admiration and respect for her. I do not think that her wedding dress was a copy of any of our designs. I have the greatest respect for Clare Waight Keller and the House of Givenchy—a huge source of inspiration to me."

Because of the furore it was widely assumed that Emilia Wickstead would not be receiving anymore commissions from Kensington Palace. Not so. For her third outfit of the day, Meghan opted for a classic little black dress, featuring a simple A-line silhouette, trendy square neckline and flattering belt detail.

Having only touched down in Dublin mere hours earlier, following the RAF centenary service at Westminister Abbey, Meghan stepped off the plane having ditched her vintage-inspired Dior dress for a fittingly green-hued ensemble by Givenchy.

The pair were then whisked off to start their first official trip abroad as a married couple, meeting with Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, before a quick change for the evening event.

It's the second time the 36-year-old has worn Emilia Wickstead, having first worn a two-set by the brand to the ANZAC Day service in April, before she became a member of the royal family.

Having swapped her tan Strathberry handbag, Meghan accessorised with a protocol-abiding clutch bag by Givenchy, a pair of drop earrings by Birks and bow-detailed black stilettos.
