When it was the moment for out there designer Jeremy Scott to unveil his latest collection in New York yesterday, proceedings were decidedly less understated than others on Monday’s schedule.

Taking a toothpaste tube as inspiration, the designer whose French Fries phone case is among the most copied designs of the Twenty First Century, unveiled sweatshirts branded with minty fresh logos and a toothpaste tube which served as a clutch bag.

Scott also went big on geometric shapes with 3D dresses among the collection’s most outlandish inclusions.

Rooted in New York’s 1980s clubbing scene, the show - watched by Paris Hilton - saw iridescent jumpsuits fused with lipstick print shift dresses and leather cutaway dresses slashed to the thigh.

But it wasn’t all silly stuff. While Scott is a tongue in cheek designer who steers clear of the conservative trends, he is also an accomplished craftsman.

A series of outstandingly well-made pleated leather skirts served as confirmation of this.
