A celebration of clubbing at Isabel Marant

Like so many of us, the Parisian designer's got a “burning desire to go out, dance, and escape”

Nightclubs may be shut for now, but Isabel Marant’s joyous explosion of a runway show at the Palais Royal in Paris last night has given us another reason to pray they’ll be open by the time her latest collection drops in spring.

Driven by a “burning desire to go out, dance, and escape,” Marant delivered an exuberant, uplifting SS21 collection of party-ready pieces inspired by 80s disco icons Debbie Harry and Kim Wilde.

Set to a booming backdrop of Donna Summer’s anthem I Feel Love, models in baggy lamé trousers with metallic ruffled tops and sequin asymmetrical micro mini dresses, made us long for a Big Night Out.

Red silk boilersuits were worn over fuchsia shiny shirts, while oversized blouson sleeve diamante leather jackets belted over teeny-weeny hot pants and sparkly swimsuits were just waiting to be thrown into a coat check.

But it wasn’t just the models that made Marant’s nightclub kick off. Snaking and cartwheeling among the columns of the former royal palace was an army of dancers in hot pink and electric blue sequin leggings and lamé hot pants; a bacchanal of bodies that writhed and pumped around the models, simulating the kind of sweaty, thudding dance floors we’ll all be craving come spring.
