Stella’s Cause

The award for best invite of the week goes to Stella McCartney, who chose to bestow a handbag-sized polar bear figurine on each of her guests. Bless. But her motivation was far from gushy. A keen environmentalist, McCartney hoped to highlight the damaging effect of hunting polar bears, which has increased by 375 per cent in the past three years. (stella mccartney.com for info)

Smart Sounds

While music from the Eighties and Nineties dominated the airwaves during London Fashion Week, the soundtrack took a turn for the surreal in Paris. A recording in which experimental musician Laurie Anderson discussed her dog’s obesity problem with a West Village vet played throughout the Dior show, while Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons enlisted the help of an orchestra to provide Givenchy’s haunting live soundtrack.

Phoebe Feet

Following every Céline show, the talk among certain members of the British press inevitably turns to Phoebe Philo’s feet. In previous seasons, fashion’s queen of trainers has chosen pink Nike Air Max and Adidas Stan Smiths in which to take her bow. On Sunday? A pair of burgundy New Balance m574s (near left). Get them in Office, before everybody else does.

Cool Wool

Thick ribbed tights in cosy wool made their mark on and off the catwalk this week. Stuart Vevers teamed versions in grey and white with leather sandals at Loewe. On the front row, woollies were worn with lace-up Balenciaga boots.

Bubbles out, beer in

Champagne is so 2012. Just ask Alber Elbaz who offered guests mini bottles of Heineken ahead of his Lanvin show on Friday night. Following his lead, a British fashion editor raised a smile — and a few envious glances — when he chose a can of Kronenbourg to keep him company at the Loewe show on Saturday.

Every Cloud

Silver eye-liner (inset left). It shouldn’t work but it totally does. Especially if you happen to be wearing it with a dress by Raf Simons for Christian Dior. If that’s too much of a financial stretch, try teaming yours with a shocking pink lipstick — Rimmel will do. Everyone will be doing it come autumn, including Miss Dior aka Jennifer Lawrence.
