There’s no such thing as a quiet week in fashion. Here’s the outlook for the days ahead

11 June 2012

MONDAY

Great Scots

The great and good of the British fashion industry travel north today ahead of the Scottish Fashion Awards, which take place this evening. Hosted by Alexa Chung, the event — now in its seventh year — is considered to be one of the most raucous occasions on the fashion calendar. Among the nominees hoping to scoop a Scottish fashion Oscar tonight are designers Christopher Kane and Jonathan Saunders(a/w12, right). Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan is nominated for the Scottish Fashion Icon Award.

TUESDAY

Tuck In

Summer dressing encompasses much more than bikinis. Just ask former stylist Gaby Basora, whose iconic, easy-breezy label Tucker has just landed in store at Selfridges. The perfect option for those who want to embrace the summer months with their modesty firmly intact, Tucker’s thing is beautifully cut blouses and dresses in prints that pack a punch. WEDNESDAY

School’s Out

After four days of blood, sweat, tears and fashion shows, the country’s most accomplished graduate fashion designers will hear their fate tonight as the annual Graduate Fashion Week Gala Award winners are revealed. Currently celebrating its 21st birthday, this year’s event will be judged by a panel of judges which includes Suzy Menkes, Christopher Bailey, Daphne Guinness, Livia Firth, Matthew Williamson, Julien Macdonald and Mary Katrantzou and include awards for collection of the year and best portfolio. For information and tickets, visit GFW.org.uk. Pictured right are designs by Deimante Meilune, a student at Colchester School of Art.

THURSDAY

Let’s Hear it for the Boys

Following months of anticipation, London’s first “men’s only” fashion week kicks off this evening. To make sure the three-day event hits the ground running, The Prince of Wales is hosting a reception at St James’s Palace this evening. From the catwalk shows taking place over the weekend, highlights are expected from tailors E Tautz and Richard James, as well as from online menswear mecca Mr Porter. Right, rapper Tinie Tempah models for Mr Porter.

FRIDAY

Garcon!

Continuing with the menswear theme, we bring you the news that our beloved French favourite, Sandro, is to open its first London menswear flagship store today. Cue grunts of joy all round. Situated in Westbourne Grove, Sandro’s menswear outfit will house some beautifully cut basics, tailoring and knitwear — all with a rock ’n’ roll edge. J’adore. (176B Westbourne Grove)
