Chanel presented its Métiers d’Art collection in Paris on Wednesday to rapturous applause from the industry's elite.

The French fashion house's Creative Director Virginie Viard leaned heavily on the brand's intrinsic DNA: tweed, skirt suits and a plethora of pearls.

Titled, "31 Rue Cambon", the address of Chanel's flagship - and legendary - Parisian store, the collection was a safe return to the brand's hallmarks, where previously Karl Lagerfeld had used countries such as Egypt and Hamburg as sources of inspiration.

The setting for the show was a collaborative effort with Italian film director Sofia Coppola and was designed to emulate the interior of Coco Chanel's original apartment.

The Métiers d’Art show is Viard's fourth collection for the house as Creative Director, a role she was appointed to following Lagerfeld's death in February.

Although it comes less than two months after its spring/ summer 2020 Paris Fashion Week show, the Métiers d'Art show is presented only once a year and is intended to celebrate the artisan; from embroiders to feather-makers.

Chanel was founded by couturier Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in 1910 in Paris.
