Fans of Ralph Lauren’s take on Wimbledon will find much to delight in with the US stalwart’s latest offering.

After all, what could be more quintessentially British than a set of uniforms that bring with them their own sense of occasion?

A wearable equivalent to a stiff upper lip, this is a no-nonsense affair which repurposes the designer’s famous Ivy League aesthetic for SW19.

Pinstripes synonymous with Savile Row inject a heightened sense of formality to jackets while polo shirts - a key seller for the Ralph Lauren brand, which also invites customers to shop from its Wimbledon collection - take a turn for the low-key. So far, so proper - but is it all just a little too tasteful?

While the world’s leading lawn tennis competition is no laughing matter, its uniform could almost certainly benefit from a little loosening up.

For female umpires, a slouchier silhouette - boyfriend rather than boxy - would help matters.

Nicely cut shorts for the ballgirls as well as their male counterparts would bring the kit up to 21st-century standards. It would also be ace to see the cricket jumper, an enduring classic in this collection, occupy a little bit more of the limelight.
