The invitation to Anya Hindmarch - which came attached to a bar of Imperial Leather-style soap - was a hint to the Seventies suburban theme that ran throughout this morning’s show, entitled ‘Absurbia’.

Hindmarch is known for her impressive stage sets and this season was no exception, with a slightly-larger-than-life-size geometrically printed house trimmed with flashing LED lights, whose roof lifted clean off its walls during the finale to reveal an enormous glitter ball.

Fittingly, the once nightmarish hell of any homeowner embarking on a doer-upper project - anaglypta wallpaper - was a big theme throughout and formed the inspiration for the textured brightly coloured quilted fabric that was fashioned into house coats and more contemporary funnel necked and hooded sporty drawstring jackets.

Continuing the general vibe of making the extraordinary out of the ordinary that has been seen at other shows in the city this weekend, there was more than a hint of retro bathrooms in the colour palette of avocado, peach and sky blue.

Running with the theme, Hindmarch created bath mat-style large looped fabrics, which formed the basis for textured deep pile slides and slippers, as well as patterns on the front of simple shirt dresses.

Accordingly for something that inevitably reminded the audience of its grandparents, the models were also styled with sharp angled nanna spectacles by Cutler and Gross and knee-length pop socks.

And so to the bags, which are the real bread and butter of this London label.

The new Chubby Collection features hand-stitched quilted leather in the aforementioned bathroom suite shades, which appeared as practical boxy shoulder bags and both oversized and miniature round styles reminiscent of vanity cases and hat boxes. The brand’s signature bag charms were also puffed in proportion, and the alphabet motifs will no doubt be a huge commercial hit.

In addition to the bath mat slippers, some models had a more glamorous footwear option, with sparkly silver block heeled Mary Janes. Because all suburban housewives need a touch of bling.
