Edith Bowman has revealed she makes sure she shares the chores with her husband so their two sons see them as equals.

The broadcaster, 44, said she is determined that Rudy, 10, and Spike, five, do not grow up to think they are better than girls, and that they see her as a “strong working woman” with no particular role at home.

Bowman, who is married to Tom Smith, 37, frontman of band Editors, told the Standard: “My husband and I are a real team. There is no one job for one person — we all muck in and do things around the house. That means the boys are growing up in a way that they see their parents are equal.”

The former Radio 1 DJ, who is from Fife and now lives in London, added: “My mum and dad had a hotel. We were expected to work in the business from a young age. That work ethic is important. I didn’t grow up with any male superiority and I want to pass that on to my boys.”

Bowman was speaking ahead of her involvement in a series of talks at the Jamavar Women’s Club in Mayfair next month. She said she would share her experiences of working in broadcast media for almost two decades and her prediction that women are set to dominate senior ranks in the industry.
