Royals, models and designers turned out in force yesterday for the Portrait Gala at the National Portrait Gallery. A major star-studded event, it saw the likes of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Jourdan Dunn and the newly proclaimed billionaires Victoria and David Beckham sweep through its hallways in style.

Members of the royal family were also in attendance - the Duchess of Cambridge, who is the museum’s patron, made an appearance, as did her cousin-in-law Princess Beatrice.

Kate returned to her wedding dress designer for her gala gown, an unusual Alexander McQueen floral-print dress which featured silk banding - a gown she is believed to have worn before, altered slightly to accommodate sleeves.

The Duchess has been a patron of the National Portrait Gallery since 2012 and has made a number of visits there, including opening a recent Lucian Freud Portraits exhibition. It’s a role that’s close to her heart, given that she studied art history at St. Andrew’s University, where she met her husband Prince William.

Princess Beatrice turned heads arriving with her rumoured boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The Princess wore a stunning red velvet dress - he wore black tie - and their attendance marked the first public appearance for the couple.

Elsewhere, the trends of the season were visible in abundance, with designer Alexa Chung stepping out in a gorgeous ruffled dress with bow embellishments, while model Kate Moss opted for a rust-coloured floor-sweeping gown.

Victoria Beckham’s pared-down outfit boasted a pop of colour via her neon pink heels - a hue echoed by artist Grayson Perry who wore a striking dress.

David Beckham looked sharp in black tie, as did former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who opted for a tailored black suit.
