Canadian ice skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir set Twitter aflame with their 2018 Olympics performance.

After they performed a steamy Moulin Rouge medley, Twitter wondered aloud if they were secretly dating, with the hashtag #VirtueMoir trending - especially because their dance was so raunchy a certain memorable move had to be toned down for audiences. They also had a short-lived reality show that was full of CW show-worthy tension.

But now, the Olympic gold medalists have announced on Instagram that they're retiring from ice skating. In the emotional video, they make it clear that they still love the sport but after 22 years it's time to retire. They have skated together since Moir’s aunt matched them up as children based on their corresponding heights.

The announcement comes after Moir announced his engagement to his first skating partner, Jackie Mascarin.

Mascarin has locked down her social media accounts, but there are still a few photos of Moir and Mascarin together.

When Virtue and Moir received their well-deserved Canada’s Walk of Fame plaques in August, Moir gave a shout out to his Aunt Carol for introducing him to both Virtue and Mascarin.

“She’s pretty good at picking partners, I will say that. This one seemed to last a little bit longer and the first one that she gave me is now my fiancée, so that works out, right?” he jokingly asked the crowd.

Virtue confirmed the news on Twitter, posting a photo of her looking for a date for the upcoming wedding.

Now, Twitter is up in arms about the news, with fans freaking out that their favorite figure skaters aren't actually together in real life.

Many fans are pulling up gifs that they believe prove they were once together judging by the chemistry.

At least they'll always have that Moulin Rouge medley.
