'I am comfortable in my space and able to put food on my table and [I am] financially stable, and that's just not the story for a lot of people'

As stars such as Jennifer Lopez self-isolate in mega mansions and others wait it out in holiday destinations or lavish second homes like Sam Heughan and Kylie Jenner, the distance between celebrities and ordinary people has never felt larger than over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Singer Miley Cyrus has opened up about being in a “unique position”, addressing her privilege and how she has “no idea what this pandemic is like.”

Speaking to Derek Blasberg for the Wall Street Journal, the Malibu singer said, “I know I'm in a unique position, and my experience with this pandemic is not like most everyone else's in my country and around the world. My life has been pushed pause on, but really I have no idea what this pandemic is like.”

“I am comfortable in my space and able to put food on my table and [I am] financially stable, and that's just not the story for a lot of people,” she continued.

Like The Office star John Krasinski, Cyrus has launched an at-home positive talk show which she hosts on Instagram Live. Called Bright Minded, the show has welcomed guests including Reese Witherspoon to talk about how they’re trying to stay positive during the pandemic.

Cyrus hinted that a number of people she had reached out to said no to appearing on the show, saying, “I'm sure some people I was reaching out to felt the same way I do, which is that my experience is so rare, it almost doesn't feel right to talk about.”

“I'm sure a lot of the hesitation for other people saying yes to doing the show is because it almost doesn't feel right for celebrities to share our experience. Because it just doesn't compare,” she continued.

Other stars have leveraged their platforms to help spread awareness of social distancing guidelines and an onslaught of handwashing PSAs, while many including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Reynolds and the cast of Friends have joined the All In Challenge - raffling off once in a lifetime experiences to raise money for food relief charities.

A fair few have found ways to keep their fans entertained during the pandemic with numerous charity fundraising concerts taking place, as well as Instagram Live concerts from the likes of John Legend and James Blake taking place.

Cyrus starred in a home cover shoot for the Wall Street Journal and revealed Moschino designer Jeremy Scott had sent pieces over to her “just in time for my home shoot.”

Wearing gloves in varying colours and vivid makeup, she was also seen wearing a shirt that read “wash your hands” as a reminder to her fans.

Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also shared her cover and said, “This is too cool! @mileycyrus on the cover of WSJ! So proud of you.”

Previous episodes of Cyrus’ show Bright Minded can be viewed on her IGTV and guests include Kerry Washington, Selena Gomez, Alicia Keys and more.
