David Beckham is putting his best charitable foot forwards with a new campaign with #TogetherBand, an initiative to help highlight the UN’s 17 Global Goals.

Beckham has joined the campaign with a particular focus on the UN’s ‘Good Health and Well-Being’ goal, opening up about how his children had shaped his approach to activism.

Speaking to #TogetherBand, Beckham said, “It’s a silly thing to say but our kids are the future. I’m very lucky to live in a city, in a country that the kids can have a great meal, they can drink fresh water, they can look after themselves and we’re very fortunate that we have that.”

Beckham has four children with wife Victoria Beckham - sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz and daughter Harper. Brooklyn, an aspiring photographer who is dating model Hana Cross, is the eldest at 20, while Harper is the youngest at eight.

Beckham continued, “I want my kids to be able to understand that they are very fortunate that they have that, but other kids around the world don’t and I will continue to fight for that.”

The #TogetherBand campaign is an initiative launched by sustainable fashion brand Bottletop and has other celebrity ambassadors in Outlander's Caitriona Balfe, Alessandra Ambrosio and Doutzen Kroes.

Through the sale of eponymous £20 and £35 Together Bands - bracelets which are made from recycled ocean plastic and repurposed illegal firearm metal - proceeds go towards funding “life-changing projects to build a better future for us all” as well as spreading awareness about the issues.

Each TogetherBand pack comes with two bracelets, meaning that supporters can opt to give their extra bracelet away to someone and pass on the message of the campaign. Beckham revealed that he wanted to give one to his son, Brooklyn, as well as his “good friend” LeBron James.

Beckham said of James, “I know that [LeBron James] being part of this campaign will be not just inspiring for him, but inspiring for young kids that are looking at great athletes and wondering, ‘How can I be the next LeBron James?’”

Beyond his work with #TOGETHERBAND, Beckham has also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005 and launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund in conjunction with the non-profit to “change the lives of vulnerable children” in 2015. Notably, the fund appears to derive its name from his daughter Harper’s full name: Harper Seven Beckham.
