ONE OF A KIND VINTAGE

In our era of fast fashion, clothes go in and out of style quicker than it takes Theresa May to say 'hard Brexit.'

Vintage clothes, on the other hand, are timeless, better for the planet and won't break the bank. If you've always thought you'd look good in Chanel but haven't had the budget, then our guide to the best designer vintage shops may just change your wardrobe/life.

One of a Kind Vintage

Notting Hill is famous for its vintage shops, and a strong case could be made for this little establishment being the best of the bunch. Racks of coats, ball gowns, designer bag, belts and hats adorn every nook and cranny. Everyone from Naomi Campbell to Sienna Miller has been here, and its beaming mugshots make up an impressive ‘Wall of Fame’. Visit for evening wear and vintage Chanel jewellery.

Deuxième vintage shop

This is one for the classier among us. With two floors stuffed full of vintage labels from Celine to Rixo, you will need a whole afternoon to sift through all the high end gems. Luckily it’s staggering distance from several pubs so you can revive yourself with a pint while wearing your new vintage Louboutins.

Serotonin Vintage

This tiny Brick Lane shop has been the secret haunt of East End scene kids for years. It specialises in 90s and 00s chic, with pieces ranging from pink Versace duster coats to Miu Miu skirt suits. If your style icon is cross between Cher Horowitz and Christina Aguilera circa 2003, look no further.

Battersea Boot

Not technically a shop, but a must-visit for dedicated vintage aficionados. This much loved car boot sale is on every Sunday come rain or shine. Often compared with Portobello market, the Battersea Boot is smaller and less well known meaning your chances of stumbling upon a vintage Prada are twice as likely.

Harris Academy, Battersea Park Rd, London SW11

William Vintage

Owned by William Banks-Blaney, crowned the 'Vintage King’ by Vogue, this place is more like a gallery than a shop. A-List fans include Tilda Swinton and Meghan Markle, who was spotted wearing a William Vintage Courreges coat during her baby shower in New York. You’ll find stunning one-of-a-kind pieces from Balenciaga to Lacroix, but be warned they come with a hefty price tag.

Wavey Garms

Wavey Garms is a specialist in 90s rave wear and the 'vibiest' old school streetwear brands. It started out as a Facebook group for friends to buy and sell rare trainers, bucket hats and Moschino jeans and soon grew so popular its opened a tiny shop in Peckham. If you're looking for one-off vintage trainers or a boujis tracksuit, then this is the place for you.

Rellik

Another Notting Hill favourite, Rellik is situated at the foot of the iconic Trellik tower on Golborne Road. Rellik's reputation precedes it. All pieces are carefully selected: think Dior sunglasses, Vivienne Westwood pirate boots and 1930s eveningwear. Obviously, Kate Moss is a big fan. Other designers include Alaïa, Pierre Cardin and Comme des Garçons.

One Vintage

Marcelle Symons's boutique specialises in repurposing second hand designer clothes into more contemporary silhouettes. The vibe is very boho luxe - think Florence and the Machine who, as it happens, is a loyal customer.
