This is how to recreate Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding messy bun at home

Royal favourite Duck & Dry gives us a ten-step guide on achieving Meghan's wedding look

Unlike Kate who wore her diamond wedding tiara with loose lowing locks, Meghan today opted for a loose chignon style, with strands that framed her face, courtesy of famed hairstylist Serge Normant.

The style was a slightly more formal version of the messy bun she has become known for.

The bun made its first appearance back in January, when Meghan made her first official royal visit with Harry to Reprezent radio station in Brixton and has since resurfaced on visits to Cardiff and Northern Ireland and in neater, slicker versions for evening events such as the Queen’s birthday.

And while Meghan’s fashion choices have broken with some of the stuffier sartorial royal protocol, it’s her bun that’s the real game changer.

Her bun you say? That casually twisted affair with loose strands at the nape of her neck and falling about her face? You would be forgiven for thinking that Meghan’s bun – which looks almost as though she could have done it herself in the car on the way there – was a non-event.

But in fact the style, fast-becoming her signature, speaks volumes as to the sort of royal family member Meghan intends to be.

By its very undoneness – strands hither and thither – Meghan’s bun semaphores busy and serious, a nod to the successful career woman Markle was prior to her engagement.

Plus, unlike the Duchess of Cambridge’s salon-styled blowout, or her chignon (the hairnet-over-bun style she occasionally sports and which requires another pair of hands to assemble), Meghan’s DIY messy bun is approachable and super attainable.

So attainable, in fact, you can very easily recreate the look at home.

Watch the video above to see the experts at Duck & Dry - a favourite salon among the young royals - show us how to recreate the look.

These are the ten steps:

  1. Spray hair to create grip and texture
  2. Backbrush from the mid-length to the root to give volume and lift
  3. Comb each section to smooth out frizz
  4. Collect the hair into a ponytail
  5. When elastic is fastened, pull the pony to tighten grip
  6. Gently tease strands out to give texture - don’t be afraid to pull strands out on both sides
  7. Backbrush ponytail to give lift and height then comb to smooth out frizz
  8. Twist the pony in the direction your hair wants to naturally turn
  9. Wrap into a bun and pin at base with kirby grips
  10. Spray to lock down style
