BarChick: Ridley Road Market Bar - review

18 March 2013

Take? A fun-loving date for cocktails and meatballs.

Vibe? The walk through Ridley Road Market sets the tone perfectly for this laid-back east London bar.

There's no phone, no booking, no guest lists, just good vibes and good times. Inside, it looks like some sort of log-shack diner, with coloured lights and pot plants. Outside, you'll find the boys from Luca Italian Meatballs on their stand - you order on your way in to enjoy with your drinks. The bar really kicks off from Thursday to Saturday, and don't miss the live funk night.

Best drink(s)? These guys have only recently got their licence, so it's an exciting time. Drinks are listed on a board above the bar. You can get cans of Red Stripe, decent coffee, or simple cocktails - aka "fancy drinks". BarChick loved the ginger mojitos and the tequila and grapefruit but the prize went to the gin and Pomegranate - simple but effective.

Cash or credit card? Cash. Cocktails are a steal at £5 each and the meatballs are cash only.

Find it? 49 Ridley Road, E8 (facebook.com/ridleyroad). Open Tues-Wed 3pm-midnight, Thurs-Sat noon-2am, Sun 2pm-11pm.
