Spectacular Sunday nights have become a right of passage for the top A-listers partying in London. Crowds outside are smaller and schedules are freer, making for private, altogether more enjoyable evenings.

Michelle Yeoh, who is back in London following her historic win at the 2023 Academy Awards as the first Asian woman to win Best Actress for her role in Everything Everything All At Once, proved why Sundays are the new Fridays last night.

For an Oscar’s celebration party, hosted by her manager David Unger, the actress took over the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park’s basement restaurant and club The Aubrey for a no-holds-barred, blow-out bash.

It attracted some lesser seen faces on the capital’s party scene, lead by Ariana Grande who arrived in a black V-neck, sleeveless shirt, leather hotpants and chunky drop pearl earrings to congratulate Yeoh. Joining the singer was her new Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, ahead of the film’s release in November 2024.

Yeoh, who herself wore a beige, jersey dress from Off-White with a cream and sequin embroidered jacket, also posed with model Naomi Campbell, seen looking corporate chic in all black, and a grey, peaked lapel tailored cape-style overcoat, and fellow actress Anya Taylor-Joy. The latter amped up the mood with a shot of pink, wearing a co-ordinating, leather corset, opera gloves, skirt and boots from Alexander McQueen.

The cocktail of choice for the evening was rightly titled ‘The Golden Man’ after Yeoh’s win, and was gin based with Yuzu liquour and lime cordial. Charcoal chicken karaage bites, vegetable maki and pork belly skewers were also handed around, before the main event: a huge cake complete with a decorative bouquet, which was rolled out on a marble cart for the actress.

It was a suitably chic soirée for a well-earned win. Not a case of the Sunday scaries in sight.
