Zero rates to stay in Japan

THE Bank of Japan is set to keep interest rates unchanged and near to zero at its regular policy meeting this week, according to Tokyo traders. A decision is due to be announced tomorrow.

Dealers said that the central bank's desire to safeguard a fragile economic recovery and counter deflation, combined with caution about the stronger yen, would influence governors.
