Youth accused over gun death sobs in court

12 April 2012

A youth sobbed today as he appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of a teenager who was shot dead.

Lewis O'Brien, 17, was killed at a house in Hathersage Road in Huyton, Merseyside, on Wednesday January 27.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, appeared at Knowsley Youth Court charged with manslaughter, possession of a prohibited firearm - a Ruger revolver - and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The boy, who was supported by both his grandmothers and his brother, wiped tears from his eyes as he confirmed his name, address and age.

He was remanded in custody to appear before the court again on February 11. As he was taken down he blew a kiss to his relatives and said: "Tell my mum I love her."
