Tate Modern: a favourite spot for Londoners
Metro13 April 2012

A host of plaques were presented last week to the winners of London Underground's first Vote London scheme.

Thousands of Londoners took part in the vote, which awarded accolades to the capital's best-loved places.

The poll revealed that Londoners take pride in some of the newest additions to the city skyline. Attractions such as the London Eye and Tate Modern beat more traditional locations like Kew Gardens and the Natural History Museum to the winning post.

The plaques were presented to the winners by Mike Brown, chief operating officer of London Underground, and Margherita Taylor at the British Airways London Eye.

Margherita Taylor said: 'The London Eye is one of my favourite spots. It's such a beautiful construction: the view of it - and from it - is just stunning and makes me proud to be a Londoner.' Mike Brown said: 'From St Katharine Docks in the East to the Carling Academy at Brixton in the South, Londoners have an unequalled selection of culture, sights and entertainment venues to explore in their capital - and they are all quickly and easily accessible by Tube, offering allround convenience and value for money.'
