Yorkshire Ripper set to marry pen friend

Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, is to marry a 54-year-old grandmother who has been visiting him in jail, it is reported today.

Sutcliffe, 58, is believed to have proposed to Pam Mills, a former pen friend described as "good and kind". The wedding will take place in the chapel at Broadmoor, where the killer has been held since 1984, it is claimed.

Ms Mills, who lives in the Midlands, and was yesterday wearing an engagement ring, declined to comment.

A source close to Sutcliffe said: "Sutcliffe is under the delusion he is going to get out. He told Pam: 'When I get out we will be together.' She asked him for some kind of sign of commitment and he replied: 'OK, let's get married'."

Sutcliffe was convicted of murdering 13 women in Yorkshire and Manchester.

Ms Mills, a mother of two whose marriage ended in 1977, started writing to Sutcliffe about 13 years ago.
