World's favourite airline is...German

BRITISH Airways is set to lose its title as the world's favourite airline, to German rival Lufthansa. Latest figures show the German carrier is likely to carry 32m passengers on international flights this year, a million more than BA. Air France could take second position within four years.

BA took the Saatchi & Saatchi-coined slogan in the Eighties. It carried more international passengers than rivals and to a wider spread of destinations.

The Observer said chief executive Rod Eddington blames the failure to build more runways and terminals in the South East, which would have allowed the airline to expand.
