Woman jailed for taking in stray cat

A woman has spent six hours behind bars and had to pay hundreds of pounds after an ownership dispute involving a "stray" tomcat she fed.

British Airways trainer Fiona May took in Wally the pedigree Birman which really belonged to Robert and Michaela Sturman, who lived a quarter of a mile away from Miss May, 34, in Crawley. The Sturmans alleged she tempted Wally with shrimps "and he tends to come back for more". Haywards Heath county court ruled that Ms May had to return the cat and pay £413.
