'Whitney wanted £120,000 from Liza'

Martin Delgado12 April 2012

Whitney Houston's refusal to appear at Liza Minnelli's wedding was over money, it is claimed today.

She had been due to sing The Greatest Love Of All as Minnelli walked down the aisle with Broadway producer David Gest in New York on Saturday. But the soul singer pulled out, claiming she had a recording commitment.

The real reason was because she demanded £120,000 in appearance fees and perks which the bride refused to pay, according to reports today. The bill was said to include £72,000 to perform, a private jet from Florida, and a £13,000 gown.

Minnelli's friends said she was in "floods of tears". Houston was replaced by Natalie Cole. Houston's spokesman confirmed she had asked for a free dress, stylist and make-up artists but added: "I'm not aware she asked for payment."
