This is London has won 'Website of the Year' at one of Britain's most prestigious awards - thanks to you!

The site - which regularly attracts two million readers every month - was recognised at the Regional Press Awards 2004 at a glitzy ceremony in Manchester, beating off strong competition from Manchester Online, BBC Bristol and IC Birmingham, among others.

Judges praised This is London for it's "great range of content, reflecting the life of a capital city".

"It is vibrant, up-to-date and serving the needs of Londoners," the judges said.

They were also impressed with live web chats with former SAS hero Andy McNab on the day the Iraq war broke out and with Derek Turner, the man who devised the congestion charge, on the week the £5 levy was introduced.

The ceremony, attended by former Manchester United and England footballer Sir Bobby Charlton, was held at Old Trafford on Friday lunchtime. BBC commentator Stuart Hall presented the prizes.

This is London, which is updated round the clock, was visited by more than two million people in June and published more than 20 million pages.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped make This is London the capital's No.1 website!
